On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, Mary Carolyn Stephens, a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the age of 81. Mary Carolyn was born on September 9, 1939 in Raymondville, Texas to Monty and Mildred Dora (Polly) Stewart. Mary Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Monty James Stewart and Mildred Dora Archer Stewart, and her brother, Monty Ray Stewart. She is survived by her husband Norman Stephens, sons Leslie Dean Stephens, Byron Stephens and wife Danielle and daughter Carolyn Jo Stephens. She is survived by six grandchildren: Cody Stephens and wife Stephanie, Jacob Stephens, Connor Smotzer and Chelsea, Brenna Smotzer, Casey Stephens, and Mark Stephens. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren Hayden and Tristan Stephens. \r\n\r\nIn 1958, she married Norman Stephens, who remained at her side until her last days. A native Texan, Mary Carolyn grew up and graduated from high school in Raymondville, Texas. She attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas.\r\n\r\nMary Carolyn was an accomplished artist. She is well known for her paintings and pen and ink drawings. Her art and craft projects are renowned throughout the community. Her passions were genealogy, reading, and organizing large family gatherings and reunions, centered around overly decorated holidays. She was an avid game player, both at home with family and at church. \r\n\r\nIn 2003, Mary Carolyn and Norman moved to Medina, Texas, where Mary Carolyn became actively involved in various local organizations and church functions. \r\n\r\nThere will be a service on Monday, November 23 at 10:30 a.m. in the Medina United Methodist Church, Pastor Bill Stegemueller officiating (263 Reed Ave, Medina, TX 78055( 830) 589-2646).
