Mary Mecay, age 96, of Kerrville, formerly of Denton, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2015, at her residence. She was born on August 27, 1919, in Velka, Czechoslovakia, to Stefan and Mary Voitec Hrubey. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1929. On September 29, 1945, she married Dr. William Lloyd Mecay in Cleveland, Ohio. \r\n \r\nMary received a BS in Business from Texas Women's University in Denton. She retired from the Denton Area Teacher's Credit Union. Mary was a very active volunteer after her retirement, including pre-school, the University of North Texas, as well as a County Election official. In Kerrville, she was an active volunteer for the Dietert Center, and the First Presbyterian Church. Mary loved to travel, and was an avid reader, and loved animals. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren. Mary loved baseball so much, she would skip classes while in Cleveland to see Bob Feller pitch for the Cleveland Indians. \r\n \r\nShe is survived by her son, Bill Mecay and wife Darcy of Kerrville; brother, Edward Hrubey and wife Joann of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Sarah Mecay of Kerrville and Dr. Stefan Mecay and wife Amanda of Kerrville. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Dr. William Lloyd Mecay. \r\n \r\nFuneral services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 11 AM, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, with Pastor Rob Lohmeyer officiating. A graveside and committal service will be held on Monday, September 28, at 1 PM at Roselawn Cemetery in Denton. \r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her name to United Cerebral Palsy, www.ucp.org, or to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org.\r\n
