Mary Hauser

February 19, 1934 — March 26, 2015

Mary Hauser, age 81, of Kerrville, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 at home peacefully in her sleep. Mary Darlene Hauser was born February 19, 1934 in Belvidere, Illinois to Edward and Mary Flood. She was the youngest of seven children. She married Joseph Daniel Hauser on July 23, 1955 in Rochelle, Illinois and they were married 54 years before Joe's death in 2009. \r\n\r\nMary received her education in Oregon, Illinois graduating from Oregon High School in 1952. She continued with vocational training to become an Administrative Assistant. Mary and Joe were married on July 23, 1955, at St. Patrick's Church in Rochelle, Illinois. \r\n\r\nJoe's career working for Del Monte Foods, took Mary to Indiana where all seven of their children were born, then back to Rochelle, Illinois in 1966, where all seven children graduated from the same high school as their father, Rochelle Township High School. After the children were grown and moved in all directions, his career took Mary and Joe to Uvalde, TX in 1984 before finally retiring in Kerrville in 1989. \r\n\r\nThroughout the years Mary, along with her husband, was very active with the Church serving as a Communion Minister, Prayer Line contact, RCIA sponsor, Bereavement Committee Chair, Bread Baker, member of the Women of Notre Dame, member of the ACTS community and volunteer at The Society of St. Vincent DePaul thrift store. Mary was also very active supporting Joe at all of the functions for the Knights of Columbus. Mary was also involved in higher education in the Learning Support Services (LSS) program at Schreiner University in Kerrville.\r\n\r\nAlong with her husband, she began as a textbook recorder, then as a test proctor for certification testing and a test proctor providing testing accommodations for students with disabilities. Mary will be remembered by her children as a faithful and devoted wife and mother, and by her grandchildren as the Grandma that read to them when they were little. When the children were young, Mary was the typical stay at home mom, but out of necessity was always working part time jobs. She worked the night shift at the Del Monte factory as a shift nurse and various other positions, typed tax returns and other legal documents and worked during the Christmas season at the local dime store. She began her professional career at St. Patrick's Church in Rochelle, Illinois. To her children she was ‘just' a secretary answering phones, but to everyone else, she was much more. \r\n\r\nMary was never 'just' anything. Unlike her husband, who was more on the quiet side, Mary was a little more outspoken and the perfect compliment for her husband. To quote a friend, "Your Mom & Dad were both very special people." Mary was the perfect example of the most perfect human being, full of deeply rooted integrity, never compromising her morals and always finding time for those who needed her. She was truly loved, admired and respected by all that came to know her, and will be greatly missed. \r\n \r\nMary was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her seven children, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren: Tom and Janiet Hauser (Kerrville, TX) with their children Rich and his wife Cathy children Rayna, and daughter-in-law Debra -children Elizabeth; Jim Hauser (Pascagoula, MS); Marie Bowman (Kerrville, TX) and her son Brandon with his wife Jennifer children Michael and Aden, and her son Billy; David Hauser and Susan (Kerrville, TX) with his son David and Priscilla Hauser - children Christian and Cameron and his son Eddie Hauser; Pat and Julie Hauser (Springfield, IL) with his daughter Ashley and Matt Randall - children Lucas and Landon, and his son Jonathan; Cathy and Mark Scozzari (Mountain Home, TX) with their children Matthew and Jennifer; and Theresa and Craig Byfield (San Marcos, TX) with their children Charles and Christine. \r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Notre Dame Catholic Church or School, Our Lady of the Hills High School or the Society of St. Vincent DePaul (Kerrville, TX). \r\n\r\nA Rosary will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapel led by Deacon Sonny Kaufhold. \r\n\r\nMass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Notre Dame Church, with Reverend Monsignor Mike Boulette as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery. \r\n\r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
