Marvin Eugene Speight, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Hilltop Village Nursing Home in Kerrville, TX.\r\n \r\nMr. Speight is survived by wife, Faye Ersch; three children, Delores Van Ryan, Malcolm G. Speight and his fiancee, Linda Busick, Pamela J. and her husband, Rick Henegar; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren; as well as step-children, Janice Taylor, Karen and Terry Sullivan, and Mike Hulett.\r\n \r\nHe grew up in Mexia and Monahans, TX, the son of George Washington and Catherine Morrisett Speights. He is survived by three sisters, Georgia (husband, Bob Hinchman, deceased), Addice and her husband, David Hinchman, and Lela (husband, Doyle Miller, deceased). She was preceded in death by a sister, Christine and her husband, John Campbell and an infant brother.\r\n \r\nHe served in the US Navy aboard the USS Omaha. After the conclusion of WWII, in a civilian capacity, Chief Mechanical Supervisor Marvin Speight flew on the last flight of the Enola Gay. Traveling from Pyote, TX, where the famous aircraft had been stored until 1946, when it was then transported to Andrews Air Force Base, eventually to be housed at the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC.\r\n \r\nAs a child, he learned strong work ethics, having to help support his mother and siblings by delivering milk on his pony after his father's untimely death. Marvin graduated from Monahans High School where he was an avid football player. He married his high school sweetheart, Cleo Iris Gorum, the mother of his three children.\r\n \r\nMarvin retired from El Paso Natural Gas, Rexall Plant. \r\n \r\nHe was also a self-employed businessman. His success in business can be directly attributed to his work ethic and his natural mechanic ability. He took pride in the fact that he always left his customers satisfied. Marvin retired many years ago to pursue his other passions: dancing, traveling first by motorcycle, then a motor home, Dominos and other games. \r\n \r\nViewing will be from 10 AM, Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Grimes Funeral Chapels until service time. \r\n \r\nA memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Friday, October 20, 2017 at Hilltop Village Nursing Home in Kerrville. Parking is very limited. \r\n \r\nGraveside services will be at 1 PM, Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Point Enterprise Cemetery in Mexia, TX.\r\n
