Marvin Douglas Matheny, Sr., or Dada as he was known to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, was born October 5, 1935 on a small farm in the Rio Grande Valley, and left to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his Heavenly home on October 23, 2017.\r\n \r\nMarvin spent his time growing up on the farm with his four siblings and mother, tending to their crops and animals while going to school. In 1953, he met the love of his life, Dixie Lee, outside the local country store in La Blanca, TX, and went on to marry her June 22, 1955. This love brought to their home three children Marvin and Dixie cherish greatly - Doug, Debbie, and Miles.\r\n \r\nMarvin was always a hard worker and dedicated family man. He went from farming their farm to companies such as Golden Jersey and National Linen as he worked to provide for his growing family. Fully selfless through his entire life, he shared his time and service as a Corporal in the United States Army Reserves from 1953-1957. Not long into their young marriage, Marvin had the opportunity to join the Luby's Cafeteria as a Manager. His hard work was soon recognized and quickly took him to the Head Manager role of his own Luby's Cafeteria, which took his family from Pharr, to San Antonio, to Brownsville, to McAllen, and finally to Austin. Marvin and his family still appreciate the loyal staff from Luby's who became our second family, and all the customers who visited and shared their families over the years.\r\n \r\nMarvin cemented his life in his love and trust in his Savior, Jesus Christ. Through this love, he and his wife were role models to their children and family - teaching a life of service, dedication, integrity, and love. Marvin spent this time with his family hunting and fishing, and shared a passion for traveling and cruising with the love of his life, Dixie.\r\n\r\nIn 1997, he retired with Dixie to their residence in Kerrville, where they enjoyed decades together with their family and the numerous friends they met at First Baptist Church Kerrville, where he served as Deacon, and later Sunrise Baptist Church.\r\n\r\nMarvin leaves endless love and memories to his family as he is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Dixie, children Marvin Douglas Jr (Constance), Debbie (Brad), and Miles (Debra), sisters Eulene Coker and Opal Billman, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.\r\n \r\nMemorial services will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville officiated by Dr. Mel Hardin.\r\n \r\nThe family would like to share special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital for the love and care shown to Marvin and his family during in his final times.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family asks you kindly donate to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.\r\n \r\n
