Marty "Eli" Benson, age 61, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 1, 2017 in Kerrville, TX. He was born in Kerrville to Henry and Genevieve Benson on September 30, 1955. He married Elsa Benson on January 27,1978 in San Antonio, TX.\r\n \r\nHe went to school in Kerrville. He graduated from Tivy High School in 1974. He attended San Antonio College and graduated in 1976. He worked as an electrician for 36 years. He was a member of Barnett Chapel United Methodist were he was very diligent in giving of his time and talent. In his early years he was an athlete at Tivy. Marty played football and was an avid runner for the track team. He loved to run marathons, and enjoyed playing ultimate frisbee in college and through his lifetime. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He loved and supported the Buffalo Soldiers. Over all he was an active grandfather and loved going to support his grandchildren in their sporting endeavors and other various extra curricular activities\r\n \r\nHe was preceded in death by his father, Henry Bo Benson Sr., in 1992.\r\n \r\nHe leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Genevieve Benson; wife, Elsa Benson; daughter, Elsita Bratcher (Jason)of Kerrville; son, Robert of Kerrville; two sisters, Lucinda Duckworth (Alvester) of Leavenworth, Kansas and Anna Fitzhugh (Eric) of Leavenworth, Kansas; 5 brothers, Henry (Adelai) of San Antonio, Texas, Albert (Rebecca) of Vernon, Texas, Kenny of San Antonio, Texas, Tim (Wanda) of Kerrville, Texas, Tyrone (Juanita) of Kerrville, Texas; a very special cousin, Dominic Edmonds; and a host of nieces, nephews and family.\r\n \r\nVisitation will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 6pm to 8pm in Kerrville, Texas.\r\n \r\nFuneral services will be held Saturday, April 8th at 11:00 am at Barnett Chapel United Methodist Church, 710 Paschal St., Kerrville, Texas. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories North Cemetery.\r\n \r\nMemorials may be given to Barnett Chapel United Methodist Church.\r\n \r\nThe family of Marty wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Oi and all those that have prayed, given food and contributions.\r\n
