Marjorie "Marge" Johnson, age 96 of Kerrville, died Tuesday, November 2, 2016 of injuries sustained when she was struck by a car on Water Street, outside of Notre Dame Catholic Church. \r\n \r\nMarge, the second of five children, was born in Chappell, Nebraska and reared in Howells, Nebraska. A teacher and school librarian for more than 30 years, Marge started her career in a one room rural Nebraska school house. In 1942, she married Dewell D. "D.D." Johnson, a World War II Naval Aviator she met at a "Big Band" dance in the late 30's.\r\n \r\nBefore moving to Kerrville in 1979, Marge and D.D. lived in Corpus Christi for 34 years. In Kerrville, Marge oversaw the addition of new libraries at three elementary schools, and was the first recipient of the Kerrville Independent School District Superintendent's "Dedicated to Excellence" award. Marge retired in 1990 as the Nimitz Elementary School librarian.\r\n \r\nIn retirement, Marge co-chaired the Kerrville Community Blood Drive for 17 years; was active in the Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary and the Women of Notre Dame; and was a member of the church choir at the time of her death.\r\n \r\nTo the often asked secret of her long, active, healthy life and happy marriage, Marge replied, "Love and a wonderful family."\r\n \r\nMarge was preceded in death by her husband, D.D.; her parents; three sisters, Mary Ann, Monica, and Marcheta; and an infant daughter, Judith Ann.\r\n \r\nShe is survived by her brother, Dr. Fred Novak of Hollywood, Florida; three sons, Gary and wife, Carolyn of Ellisville, Missouri, Alan and wife, Brooke of San Antonio, and Paul of Jonestown, Texas; six grandchildren, Christopher, Peter, Jon, Paul Jr., Kimberly and Carly Johnson; and twelve great grandchildren, Kathleen, Benjamin, Andrew, Donavin, Destiny, Sanjay, Amiya, Connor, Sarah, and Michael Johnson, and Kennedy and Landon Hodges.\r\n \r\nMass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 PM, November 10, 2016 at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Monsignor Michael Boulette officiating. Private interment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio at a later date.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dietert Center Meals on Wheels in Kerrville, Texas.\r\n
