Marilyn Kay Conerly, 64, of Kerrville, passed away quietly at home Thursday morning, February 5, 2015. Kay, as she was known to her family and friends, was born January 7, 1951 at Hermann Hospital, Houston, Texas, to parents James R. and Bobbie Allen of New Braunfels, Texas. Kay was married July 23, 1977 in New Braunfels to Ted Conerly, former banking executive, now a teacher at both Fredericksburg Middle School and Stonewall Elementary School, and leader of the popular Sentimental Journey Orchestra. \r\n\r\nKay graduated from New Braunfels High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Southwest Texas State University, now known as Texas State University, in San Marcos. She taught school for more than 30 years in the Galveston, Bryan, San Antonio Northside and Kerrville ISDs until illness forced her retirement from teaching first grade at Kerrville Tom Daniels Elementary School in 2009. \r\n\r\nOver the years, Kay was actively involved with the New Braunfels Conservation Society, and the Galveston Historical Society Junior Auxiliary. At the time of her death she was a member of the Order of Confederate Rose, another historical heritage organization. She was also a past president of the Hill Country Charity Ball Association. \r\n\r\nKay was preceded in death by both of her parents, and two twin granddaughters, Kylee Ann and Dallas Conerly.\r\n\r\nKay is survived by Ted, her devoted husband of more than 37 years, their son Adam Conerly, a U.S. Navy musician currently serving in Jacksonville, Florida, daughter-in-law April Conerly, and their son Corbin, Kay's cherished grandson. She is also survived by her only and beloved sister, Carol Spracklen, and her husband Larry, of Arlington, Texas, and two brothers, James M. Allen and wife Martine of New Braunfels, and Charles T. Allen and wife Ann, also of New Braunfels. Also surviving is brother-in-law Phillip Coffman and wife Carol, of Dickinson, Texas. Kay was extremely proud of her family that includes numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Kay is also survived by hundreds of Texas schoolchildren she educated and influenced, for whom her love of teaching made a positive difference.\r\n\r\nA memorial service for Kay will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 14 at First United Methodist Church, 321 Thompson Drive, Kerrville. A reception and family visitation will follow at the church.\r\n\r\nKay's family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to her many doctors, nurses, and other health care providers, the Hill Country Memorial Hospice and staff, and also Kay's many friends who provided help, support, and prayers throughout her illness.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be made to the charity of your choice, the Freeman-Fritts Animal Shelter, or the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis.\r\n\r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
