Marian R. Oakes, 88, of Kerrville, Texas passed away on January 11, 2016 in Kerrville. She was born in Quapah, Oklahoma to Loren David and Ethel Rusk on February 27, 1927. She married H. Gene Oakes on February 28, 1948 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.\r\n \r\nShe went to college at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was a loving wife and devoted mother to her three children. Her life's work was to provide a kind and loving home to those children. Her love was unconditional and her life was filled with helping others. Many people from different walks of life called her "friend." She had a passion for the arts with painting being her primary interest. She was a talented artist and while she painted in many different mediums, her specific love was portraits of people she met through her life's journey. She was one of a handful of artists invited to travel through Italy with famed artist Laos Markos. She won many awards but loved her paintings like children and seldom parted with one. In Kerrville she was a member of the Kerrville Art Club for many years and a member of both Grace Bible Church and Southern Oaks Baptist Church.\r\n \r\nMarian R. Oakes is survived by her husband H. Gene Oakes; children, Linda and Mark Thomason, Gene David and Velia Oakes, and Gina and Ronald J. Calisher; grandchildren, Melissa Verciglio, Curtis Thomason, Timothy Thomason, Emily Bradley, Christopher McDonald, Eric Calisher, Kevin Calisher, adopted Brandon Kowarsky; great-grandchildren, Ryan Verciglio, Vincent Verciglio, Colin Thomason, Preston Thomason, Selene Bradley, Cole Calisher, Charlotte Calisher, Kaden Calisher, Ciara Kowarsky, and Callum Kowarsky.\r\n \r\nFuneral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.\r\n \r\nMemorials may be given to Peterson Hospice or Caring Senior Services.\r\n
