Margaret Nilsson

September 30, 1929 — February 24, 2015

Margaret Ann was born to Oliver and Lioam Jetty in Houston, Texas September 30, 1929. Soon after, the family moved to Oregon, where they built a forest homestead at Tillamook during the Depression. After the great forest fire there in 1933, and the untimely death of Margaret's sister, Aline, the family made their home in the northwest, where Margaret developed her love for nature and all God's creatures.\r\n \r\nMargaret and Glenn Nilsson married October 15, 1948, in Seattle, WA, where she previously graduated from Garfield High. The couple's honeymoon trip was a move to Houston, TX, an area where they made a permanent home, eventually, in Pasadena, enjoying an extended family life, and raising two children, Glenda and Mark. The Nilssons later lived briefly at Katy, and at their La Grange farm before making Kerrville/Ingram their retirement home 20 years ago.\r\n \r\nMargaret was a warm but quiet, private person who loved books, her African Violets, her garden and wild birds, her many pets and traveling with Glenn. Her greatest passion was family. A born caregiver, all received Margaret's capable and loving attention, from the oldest to the youngest. All creatures thrived under her care. Becoming a grandmother filled her life with joy and purpose. She was never happier than with a baby in arms, on her hip, or by the hand, and later, at her side reading aloud for hours on end.\r\n \r\nMargaret was Glenn's devoted wife for more than 66 years. She so enjoyed their last big trip together, retracing on their Golden Anniversary, the honeymoon trip to Seattle and back to the Hill Country, taking many side trips over several weeks. They loved their home at Ingram Oaks and were active at Zion Lutheran Church and as volunteers for CAM. While the last few years have been riddled with loss, illness, and change, life moved on. Margaret's four beloved grandchildren produced 10 great-grandchildren in 11 years, bringing new hope, purpose and more love to share. Margaret was able to enjoy bouncing all 10 on her knees and many cuddled on her lap and at her side, reading or coloring, as did her children and grandchildren.\r\n \r\nMargaret is survived by her dear husband, Glenn; her daughter, Glenda and son-in-law, Anthony Coden; son, Mark Nilsson and daughter-in-law, Margo. Grandchildren are Erin (and Brian) Peterson of New Braunfels, Chris (and Monique) Nilsson and Eric (and Mimi) Nilsson of Sugarland, and Emily (and Trey) Russ of Camp Verde. Treasured great-grand babies are Claire, Annelise, Ryan, Cade, Julianna, Addison, Will, Wade, Austin and Greyson. They will all continue to benefit from her legacy of love. Margaret will also be greatly missed by her cousin and life-long dearest friend, Mary Jane Cook of Ingram.\r\n \r\nThe Nilsson Family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to special friend and caregiver Bobbie Nauss, the residents and staff of Sterling House, and the professionals of 2-West, PRMC, who treated her with tenderness and dignity in her final hours.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, Margaret would wish donations be made in her name to Zion Lutheran Church, where a memorial service will be held this Saturday, February 28th at noon.\r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
