Lula Mae Alexander, age 93, of Bandera, passed away on May 21, 2017. She was at last victorious over her long illness of profound dementia. Before moving to Bandera County 33 years ago, Mrs. Alexander resided in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born February 2, 1924 in rural Nueces County to Elroy Dewey Mahan and Myrtle Mae Tiner Mahan. Lula Mae Mahan was united in marriage to Raymond Clay Alexander on February 3, 1947 at South Bluff Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas.\r\n\r\nLulu Mae attended school in Flour Bluff, Texas. She was baptized at the Gardendale Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. After marrying, she worked in Washington State in the fruit orchards and later she lived on and worked her and her husband's ranch in Colorado. After returning to Texas, she was an employee for the Levi Strauss Company. Later she and her husband worked for the U. S. Forest Service as campground hosts in Colorado. They traveled extensively throughout the United States with Thousand Trails. She was an avid bowler and she loved to adopt homeless dogs and cats. Mrs. Alexander was a member of Lakehills, Texas United Methodist Church where she and her husband served as greeters. She also served in fund raising events for the Lakehills Volunteer Fire Department and volunteered regularly with Helping Hands Thrift Store.\r\n\r\nPreceding her in death were Raymond Clay Alexander, her husband of 57 years, two sisters, Inez Mahan Butler and infant, Myrtle Mae Mahan, and her parents.\r\n\r\nShe is survived by nephews and nieces.\r\n\r\nThe family of Lula Mae Alexander wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Divya Muthappa, Dr. Saleh Jaafar, their staff members and the caring professionals at River City Hospice. We are especially grateful for the care given to Lula Mae by her "extended family" at Bandera Nursing and Rehab Center where she resided for the past seven years.\r\n\r\nFuneral Arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera. Lula Mae will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
