Lois Hansen Hester, 101, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014 in Houston. She was born October 13, 1913 in Salt Lake City, UT to Helge Ausburn Hansen and Laura (Green) Hansen. \r\n \r\nIn 1915, her father, with JC Penney's nephew, opened one of the first Penney stores, located in Anaconda, MT. In 1917, the family was transferred to Virginia, MN where Mr. Hansen opened a second Penney store. Lois graduated from high school in Virginia, MN and attended Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. In 1935, she married Clyde Hester in Harlingen, TX. They moved to Ashland, WI in 1936 and then to Kerrville in 1947, where her husband opened Hester Window Coverings. They lived in Kerrville for 57 years, loving every minute of it, until 2004, when they moved to Houston to be near family.\r\n \r\nLois was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kerrville. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Lions Club and the Porcelain Art Club. She had the pleasure of working at Schreiner's in the 1950's and then for Dr. Chalk for 8 years. She then worked for the greeting service where she loved welcoming people to beautiful Kerrville.\r\n \r\nShe is survived by her son, Larry Hester, and his wife Meredith of Houston; two grandchildren, Stephen Hester and Laura Hester Kelly; and three great-grandchildren, Haley and Harrison Hester and Lance Kelly III. \r\n \r\nServices will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014, 2 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Texas Lions Camp or First United Methodist Church of Kerrville.\r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
