Lois Heinen Hayes, 96, of Bandera, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 in a Bandera care center. She was born in Comfort, Texas, July 27, 1919, to Frank J. Heinen and Dovie Bass Heinen. She married Harold E. Hayes on December 21, 1935 in Bandera.\r\n \r\nShe attended school in Medina and Bandera. She was a very active member of Bandera United Methodist Church since 1942, teaching Sunday school for many years, and singing in the choir. As a member of the Bandera United Methodist Women, she held all the offices, was active in the "Cut Ups", and served as Chair of the Bandera United Methodist Church Grief Support Committee for over 20 years. She had served communion to nursing home residents and was retired from working at King-Dergarten daycare after many years, where the children adored her and her co-workers loved and appreciated her. Mrs. Hayes served on the Helping Hands Board of Directors and had been a director of the Bandera Cemetery Association.\r\n \r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on January 3, 1986, a son, Harold Allen (Sonny) Hayes in October 2009, one great-grandson, four brothers and five sisters.\r\n \r\nSurvivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Murphy, one son, Russell Hayes and wife Sherry, six grandchildren: Debra Putnam (Richard), Norman Hayes (Monica), Cindy Bowles (Charles), Megan Hayes, Jeannie Murphy, and Allen Hayes, five great-grandchildren: Heather Hayes, Laura Riley, Eric Putnam, Charlotte Bowles, and Celeste Bowles, one great great grandson, Jason Riley, and numerous nieces and nephews.\r\n \r\nVisitation will be Thursday October 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 30, at Bandera United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry McRorey and Rev. Dennis Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Bandera Cemetary where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.\r\n \r\nPallbearers will be Norman A. Hayes, Charles Bowles, Richard Putnam, Eric Putnam, Henry Holt, Gerald Byrket, Curtis Heinen, and Allen Hayes.\r\n \r\nMemorials may be given to the BUMC Building Fund, PO Box 128, Bandera, Texas 78003, Helping Hands, or a charity of choice.
