Leo Jenschke, Jr.

August 31, 1945 — November 27, 2015

Abraham Lincoln can be quoted as saying, "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years."\r\n\r\nLeo Robert Jenschke, Jr., Bobby, could have used this quote as his mantra. Though only 70 at the time of his passing, on November 27th, 2015, Bobby Jenschke lived more lives in those years, than many do in a great number more. To those who knew Bobby, there is no question that he lived everyday of his life to its fullest.\r\n\r\nBobby, a lifelong resident of Kerrville, was born on August 31, 1945, to Leo and Helen Kunz Jenschke. He attended the Notre Dame Catholic School in Kerrville through eighth grade before graduating from Tivy High School in 1963. While in high school, Bobby became a constant presence at his father's construction business, carefully watching and learning the trade. He continued his apprenticeship under his father but always made time for "living." In the fall of 1964, he met the love of his life, Sharon Spreen, from Houston, while she was visiting Fredericksburg with a college classmate. In 1966, the two were married and began making memories, living every day in its entirety for the next 49 years.\r\n\r\nAs the family grew with the birth of their son, Brian, in 1969, Bobby began his own construction company, Leo Jenschke, Jr. Construction Company in the early 1970s. Having his own company, Bobby made many lifelong friends across the Texas Hill Country while building many a road and dam. As his business expanded, so too did the family with the addition of a daughter, Laurie, in 1975. Bobby and Sharon stayed in Kerrville, raised their family and remained faithful parishioners to Notre Dame Catholic Church, all the while, making more friendships. Bobby retired from his business for a first time but to the surprise of no one who knew him well, that was short lived, as Bobby was never one to sit still and let life pass him by. So, after a brief go at retirement, and at the insistence of many a satisfied customer desiring more work, he returned to the business and worked another ten years or so before retiring for good.\r\n\r\nSince retirement, Bobby has lived another full lifetime. He has spent these past years simply doing more of the same things he has always loved. He has spent countless numbers of weekends fishing on the Texas Coast with Sharon and a plethora of family and friends. He has hunted everything from deer on his own home place, to pheasant in the Texas Panhandle, to alligators in Florida to ducks in Arkansas. Again, with Sharon by his side, he has travelled to six continents and enjoyed his other favorite pastime - touring castles, cathedrals and temples.\r\n\r\nBobby Jenschke was preceded in death by both of his parents, Leo and Helen Kunz Jenschke and by an infant brother, Patrick Jenschke. He is survived by his loving wife Sharon, of the home; his son Brian Jenschke, Cami and their children, Ramsey and Hampton of Austin and his daughter, Laurie Jenschke Franklin, Rob and their children, Bree and Colbie of Fredericksburg; his two sisters, Jeanette Jenschke Pawelek and Alfred of Houston and Barbara Jenschke of Austin. Finally, he is survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and valued friends.\r\n\r\nBobby was first a loving son and brother. He was then a devoted husband and father and for four blessed children, he was most importantly, "GranBob." Bobby, for 70 years, was full of life and vigor. He lived every day to its maximum potential and, in so doing, lived the equivalent of at least double that number of years. He made every gathering more fun and was the quintessential life of the party. He loved fully and lived largely and will be greatly missed by all lucky enough to have called him family and friend. \r\n \r\nHis life will be celebrated with a rosary on Monday, November 30th at 6:00 P.M. at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Kerrville, followed by a funeral mass on Tuesday, December 1st at 1:30 P.M. at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Kerrville. If desired, memorial donations are requested to be made to St. Peter Upon the Water in Ingram or the Notre Dame Catholic School or Church in Kerrville.\r\n\r\nFuneral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
