Leland David Barrett, 94, of Lakehills, Texas, passed away on November 17, 2023 in Boerne, Texas. He was born on October 2, 1929 to Arthur Garland Barrett and Celeste McLelland Barrett in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, and later served in the Army Reserves at Fort Hood. He married Kitty Jean McGaughy on March 17, 1951. Leland was a friendly, outgoing man who loved being around people. He enjoyed fishing for speckled trout at the coast and deer hunting season in the fall. Leland and Kitty spent many summers traveling the USA in their RV. He was a member of the Medina Lake Shrine Club, where he served as President in 1993. Leland was a Mason in Bandera Lodge 1123, and received the Golden Trowel Award in 2006. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Boerne. Leland was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Kitty Jean Barrett, his parents Arthur Garland and Celeste McLelland Barrett, and his sister Carolyn Barrett Hosseini. Leland is survived by his daughters, Linda Barrett Mills(Mike) and Karen Barrett; grandsons Jason Benke, Michael Benke (Jessica), David Gibson (Merrisa), and Justin Mills(Shannah); great-grandchildren Chance Burford Gibson(Sarah), Donna Thornton Gibson, Jake Friedman Benke, Lucas Friedman Benke, and Samuel Alexander Mills; great-great grandchildren Autumn Rainey Gibson and Willow Rose Gibson; nephew Art Shearer, nieces Cindy Shearer Yianni and Susan Shearer Ballenger. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday November 25, 2023, at the Mission Park North Chapel. The eulogy will be given by Art Shearer. Pallbearers will be David Gibson and Justin Mills. Memorials may be given to your favorite charity. The family of Leland Barrett wishes to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Opus Hospice, Cibolo Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center, and Alamo Hospice for their wonderful support during Leland’s final years.
