Leatrice Joy Nixon, age 89 of Kerrville, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 in a local hospital. She was born August 10, 1926 in Robert Lee, Texas to Ed and Evah Gray. She lived most of her childhood in Carrizo Springs, Texas, where she attended school all the way from Kindergarten through high school graduation. She attended Junior College in San Antonio, Texas where she worked at the PX at Fort Sam Houston. This is where she met Leon Nixon. They married on December 23, 1946. As an Army wife, she followed him as their service to our country took them all over the world. They had and raised four children.\r\n \r\nAfter retiring to Kerrville, Leatrice was involved in the Point Theater where she was the House Manager for 22 years. Leatrice was very involved as a volunteer in the Kerrville community and several years ago was named Volunteer of the Year for Kerrville.\r\n \r\nShe is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Evah Gray; her loving husband, Leon E. Nixon; her two sisters, Ruthelle Wiggins and Sue Keevert; three brothers, Earle Gray, Glenn Gray and Leonard Gray; her son, Leon Nixon; and daughter-in-law, Mary Nixon.\r\n \r\nSurvivors include her daughters and their husbands, Joy and Buddy Payne of Stephenville, Texas and Nicki and Bob Baird of Georgetown, Texas; her son, Glenn Nixon of Brownwood, Texas; and her daughter-in-law, Terry Nixon of Abilene, Texas; nine grandchildren, Brandye Munn, Brooke Martin, Nick Smith, Brad Payne, Sam Nixon, Mandi Nixon, Sarah Nixon, Lydia Nixon and Brian Nixon. She was blessed with 16 great grandchildren with one on the way. She is also survived by her close friend of over 20 years, Eugene Pope of Kerrville, Texas. \r\n \r\nMemorial services will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Kerrville Church of Christ, officiated by Dr. Greg Cummings.\r\n \r\nFollowing her memorial, her ashes will be placed with her husband in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.\r\n
