On March 2, 2019, at his home in Kerrville, Texas, Larry Steele, 79, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior; his spiritual body now awaits his new, imperishable body, the devastating effects of Alzheimer's disease erased for eternity.\r\n\r\nBorn May 16, 1939 in Loup City, Nebraska, he was the first son of Arnold and Mildred Steele, arriving after 4 sisters. He graduated from Hay Springs (Nebraska) High School where he met Barbara Jean Bokamper. They were married August 17, 1958 and were blessed with a son and daughter.\r\n\r\nLarry worked at the Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, South Dakota for 10 years and part-time at the US Post Office. Barb and Larry moved to Lubbock, Texas and were involved in square dancing and traveled to many state and national conventions. Larry retired from the US Postal Service after 32 years of service as a letter carrier. After retiring, they moved to Kerrville in 1999. Barbara passed away November 10, 2000 from cancer after 42 years of marriage. His parents; infant daughter, Penny; and sister, Marilyn Alcorn also preceded him.\r\n\r\nOn July 5, 2002 Larry married Helen Cannon in Kerrville. They attended First United Methodist Church where they served with Family Ministry for over 10 years. Larry also volunteered with the church's Mustard Seed Ministry and Habitat for Humanity.\r\n\r\nLarry is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Jeffrey (Hilda) Steele; daughter, Pam (Tony) Miano; three granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; also a brother, Wayne (Charolette); three sisters, Betty Reid, Shirley Blair, and Carolyn Judge; Helen's children, Kristen (Byron) Inion and Michael Cannon; Helen's three grandchildren; sister-in-law, Edith Bury; and many nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nLarry and Helen are members of Trinity Baptist Church, 800 Jackson Road in Kerrville, where a memorial service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 2 pm.\r\n\r\nHelen would like to thank Dr. Rebecca Daley and RNs Desiree Bermudez, Becky Walsh, and Ronda Schmidt with Ave Maria Hospice of Fredericksburg for their support and care the past 2 years; also caregivers, Patricia Dickerson and Dora Martinez.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be made to Mustard Seed Ministry at KFUMC, short-term missions at Trinity Baptist Church, Ave Maria Hospice of Fredericksburg, or the charity of one's choice to honor Larry's memory.\r\n\r\n\r\n
