Kathleen Margaret (Katie) Comer, 86, passed from this life to new life on March 14, 2018. She was born to Hugh and Harriett Hogan on December 1, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a preschooler she moved with her family to Windsor, Ontario. Her father commuted across the river to work in Detroit. Katie attended Assumption College, now University of Windsor, receiving a degree in medical technology. Katie held the distinction of being the first lady to enroll when that formerly all men's college became coed. Katie worked in her field in hospitals, clinics, and doctor's offices maintaining her professional certification for 42 years.\r\n \r\nKatie continued to live in Windsor and married Richard Bendick there. Her only child a son, Gregory, was born in Windsor. The family eventually moved to Mount Pleasant, Michigan. After a divorce Katie moved to Slidell, Louisiana to be near her brother, Hugh. It was there she met Wayne Comer and they were married in 1981.\r\n \r\nAfter Wayne's retirement they became full time RV dwellers, traveling for more than 5 years through all 49 continental states. During these travels they spent much time volunteering with Servants On Wheels Ever Ready (SOWERS) before settling in Kerrville.\r\n \r\nKatie was a prolific quilter in addition to her many other arts and crafts interests. She was a lifelong choir singer and while a Kerrville resident, a member of Trinity Baptist Church Sanctuary and Prime Time choirs. \r\n \r\nKatie's only child, Greg, is deceased leaving her only heir Laura and mother Claudia of Crozet, VA.\r\n \r\nKatie is survived by her husband, Wayne Comer of Kerrville; her only sibling, Hugh and wife Marlene of Slidell, LA. She is also survived by Wayne's children, Becky and husband Brad of Stonington, IL, David and wife Kerry of Colorado Springs, CO, Ruth of Athens, AL, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.\r\n \r\nThanks to the kind and thoughtful people at Brookdale Kerrville (Leslie Drive) and Peterson Hospice for caring for Katie in her last days.\r\n \r\nKatie's memorial service will be Tuesday, March 20, 11 AM at Trinity Baptist Church, Kerrville, with Pastor John Wheat officiating.\r\n
