Her nephew Bernie Long Nelson, of Castle Rock, Colorado, was also very dear to her heart. Other living members of her extended family include her cousins, Elsie Blacklock of Brady, and Jackie Graef, of San Antonio.\r\n\r\nJoyce spent much of her early childhood in Brady, Texas. Very early in life, she had a deep interest in spiritual matters and a deep love for God. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on April 18, 1943. Later, the family moved to San Antonio. It was there in 1949 that she met Leon Wimberley. The couple was wed on June 1, 1950. Soon they were blessed with two children. Joyce was a loving and diligent mother who ran a ‘tight ship.' She taught her children to love and respect God and neighbor, and to rely on the Bible as God's wisdom for daily living. She and Leon worked closely as volunteers with their local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She actively shared her Bible-based hope with others in door-to-door ministry, and helped start new congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses in Poteet, Jourdanton, Pleasanton, and San Antonio, Texas. She also worked for over 20 years outside the home as life and health insurance agent for Transamerica and AFLAC in both San Antonio and Kerrville.\r\n\r\nGenerous to those in need, over the years Joyce and Leon welcomed those in personal crisis into the family home. Once, during a Texas hurricane, they gave 17 storm refugees shelter for 10 days. She was willing to assist the destitute by offering temporary shelter and much practical help. In later years, she was also a caregiver to several elderly family members.\r\n\r\nJoyce had a keen mind, and loved learning. An avid reader, she collected and read hundreds of books, always seeking to expand her education through new fields of interest. She loved the study history, poetry, inspirational biographies, medicine, and the Bible.\r\n\r\nFuneral arrangements are being handled by Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville. Details of a memorial service will be announced at a later date.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n
