Joyce A. Cox, age 91 of Kerrville, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at her residence. She was born July 17, 1925 in Alamo, TX to Gus and Ida (Dickey) Davis. On July 24, 1965, she married Samuel G. Cox in Pharr, TX. He preceded her in death on September 26, 2015.\r\n \r\nJoyce retired from Southwestern Bell (now AT&T) in McAllen, TX. There she began her career as a telephone operator and continued her training and was promoted to many other positions while raising five children. \r\n \r\nShe and Sam were faithful servants of First Baptist Church in Pharr. It was there that their involvement in a Mexican Mission branch of First Baptist Church became their passion. Joyce loved children deeply all of her life.\r\n \r\nWhen she retired from work, she became a self taught artist. She loved painting flowers and landscapes. Later, her imagination for the canvas had no boundaries. Eventually she became a professional while winning numerous awards. She was a member of the Kerrville Art League.\r\n \r\nJoyce loved people in general. She looked for the good in everyone. She never met a stranger. To best describe Joyce would be to say she loved Jesus Christ more than life. Her prayer life never waivered even to the end of her earthly life.\r\n \r\nShe is survived by daughters, Bernice Price (spouse, Ronnie), Robbie Luitjen (spouse, Craig), Shirley Sirmons; sons, Russell Cox (wife, Barbara) and Samuel G. Cox III; cousin, Jim Dickey (wife, Pat); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and precious friends. \r\n \r\nMemorial services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Western Hills Baptist Church, 2010 Goat Creek Road in Kerrville, officiated by Frank Pullin. Burial will be held privately. \r\n \r\nFor your consideration, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Peterson Hospice.\r\n
