Joseph Young

Joseph Russell Young, age 87, passed on Sunday, May 5, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on September 30, 1931, to T/Sgt Joseph T. Young and Gussie Groff Young. \r\n\r\nHe lived on Camp Bullis as a child with his parents and sisters. He attended Brackenridge High School where he participated in football and track. He worked for Groff Brothers Tires under his uncle. He worked for San Antonio City Public Service Board for 30years. He started out as a Lineman's helper and worked his way up to furnishing power to commercial properties. He was a member of the softball team, enjoyed the picnics, and social gatherings.\r\n\r\nRussell married the love of his life, Helmar Jean Moeller, in 1961. They celebrated 52 years of marriage. Russell and Jean traveled to numerous places. He spent time fishing with the Bass Club, a member of the former CCRA, going to horse races in Texas and New Mexico, playing in poker games and watching sports especially the UT Longhorns.\r\n\r\nHe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helmar Jean, parents, sisters, Betty Mills and Gertrude Goertz. He is survived by his son, Booker H. Young (Connie), grandchildren, Kasey Young (Courtney Wall), Megan Locker (Robert), and great-grandchild, Brooke Locker. \r\n\r\nThe family wishes to thank numerous family and friends for their love and support during these last months of hospitalization.\r\n \r\nVisitation will be 5pm to 7pm Friday, May 10th at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera. \r\n\r\nFuneral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Grimes Funeral Chapels with Pastor Kyle Toomire of the Bandera United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside services will follow at Bandera Cemetery. \r\n\r\nMemorials may be given to Vitas Healthcare.
