Jose Castanon

November 27, 1967 — October 19, 2019

Jose Cruz Castañon, 51, of Kerrville, Texas passed away on October 19, 2019. Born in Candelas, Guanajuato, Mexico, he was one of many children born to Eliseo Castañon and Eutiquia Guerrero. Jose married Eugenia Montero Castañon on January 27, 1990, and they were about to celebrate 30 years of marriage. Like most couples, they had their ups and downs, but Jose found his home anywhere Eugenia was and loved his "morris" very much. Soon after their marriage, Jose and Eugenia welcomed their daughter, Norma, and several years later, completed their family with their daughter, Erica. \r\n \r\nJose came to the United States as a teenager and started working immediately. For most of his life, he worked in construction and loved working outside. When he wasn't working, he was busy with his own home projects, joking with friends, or poking fun at his wife and daughters. Jose had a wealth of knowledge and was a man of many trades. He enjoyed teaching others what he knew. Jose lived his life without fear and his motto was "no te esponges" or in other words, "don't get so riled up, don't take life too seriously." Jose also cared deeply for his family, visiting his parents and siblings in Mexico any opportunity he had and was very close to his brother, David Castañon, and his family who live in Kerrville. Jose was a devoted and supportive son-in-law, always making sure his mother-in-law had everything she needed. Jose loved and cherished his daughters, who he referred to as his "pingos," always reminding them that everything he did was for them. Anytime they called asking for help, he without hesitation, responded with, "Ok, just tell me when" and meant it. \r\n \r\nThose left to honor and cherish Jose's memory are his wife, Eugenia Castañon, his daughters, Norma Angelica and Erica Castañon, his mother, Eutiquia Guerrero, his father, Eliseo Castañon, his brothers, David, Jose, and Juan Castañon and his sisters Carolina and Griselda Castañon. Jose is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends who will keep his memory alive. \r\n \r\nJose will always be remembered as ‘pelonchas' to his wife and as ‘poppitos' to his daughters.\r\n\r\nRosary will be held at 6PM Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Mass will be held 1 PM, Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Notre Dame Catholic Church.
