Jonathan Jones Ragsdale, age 59 of Ingram, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 in Kerrville, TX. Jon was born June 20, 1955 at Sid Peterson Hospital in Kerrville to Silas B. Ragsdale Jr. and Ruth "Dusty" Byerly Ragsdale.\r\n \r\nHe attended Texas Woman's University Demonstration School in Denton, Hunt Elementary School and Tivy High School before graduating from high school at Schreiner Institute. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University prior to earning an associate's degree in arts at Schreiner University in 1981.\r\n \r\nAs a teen, Jon developed a real prowess in Indian dancing and lore, under the tutelage of the late Tom T. Rowe of Albuquerque, NM. Jon later shared that knowledge with many boys at Camp Stewart. He had a very inquisitive and creative mind, and in his adult years, Jon had an intense interest in languages, studying Swahili, French and Sign Language. He also loved coin collecting and writing poetry and was proud of having several pieces published. \r\n \r\nJon married Janet Thompson on October 25, 2007 in Ingram, where they resided together.\r\n \r\nThe family expresses their gratitude to the staff at the Sid Peterson Hospice and Hilltop Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their attentive care and dedication. \r\n \r\nJon was predeceased by his father, Silas B. Ragsdale, Jr.\r\n \r\nHe is survived by his wife, Janet; siblings, Cynthie Jane Ragsdale of Hunt, Julianna June Ragsdale of Palm Springs, Calif., Silas B. "Jeeper" Ragsdale, III of Hunt and Jody Gilliam Mulcahey of Denver; and mothers, Ruth Gilliam and Kathy Ragsdale of Hunt. He is also survived by two nephews, Silas Deen Howell of Austin, Silas B. Ragsdale IV of Hunt; and one niece, Catherine B. Ragsdale of Hunt; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.\r\n \r\nServices will be held Friday, January 23, 2015, 2 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville.\r\n \r\nMemorials may be made to Cailloux Animal Shelter, Schreiner University Scholarship Fund, or any fund benefitting Native Americans.\r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
