Johnny James Snipes passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 22, 2019 at his home. He was 72 years old.\r\n\r\nJohnny was born April 13, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Margie Lee Birmingham Snipes and Johnny Thomas Snipes. He was their only son. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict and was proud of his service. \r\n \r\nOn July 6, 1992 he was united in marriage to Rhonda Hanson in Mathis, Texas. Johnny was a master electrician and retired from Valero in 2008. He and Rhonda have been residents of Bandera County for the last 11 years.\r\n\r\nJohnny was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Francis. \r\n\r\n Survivors include his wife of 27 years Rhonda; daughter Jolene Rene Harris and husband James; sons Johnny Ray Snipes and wife Priscilla, Craig Waylon Snipes and wife Tammy, Justin Doyle Snipes and wife Sunshine and Earl Dean McCown and wife Peggy; sisters Margaret Downs and Jewell Cox; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren with 2 more expected in the near future.\r\n\r\nVisitation will be held on Friday, November 29, 2019 from 10 AM until 12 Noon at Grimes Funeral Chapels. The service celebrating Johnny's life will follow at 1 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera with Rev. David Penrod officiating. Interment will follow at the Pipe Creek Cemetery with military honors. \r\n\r\nFor those who desire, memorial gifts to Wounded Warriors would have Johnny's approval.\r\n
