Johnny Enrique Figueroa\r\n1950-2018\r\n\r\nJohnny "John" Figueroa, of Bandera, passed away on Tuesday January 9th. \r\n\r\nJohn was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico to Aida and Hector Figueroa on June 20, 1950. He grew up in Puerto Rico and graduated from Gabriela Mistral High School in San Juan. He then attended A & I University in Kingsville, Texas where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1974. This is where he met and then later married the love of his life, Michaella Billings on August 16, 1974 in Corpus Christi, Texas. \r\n\r\nHe spent the last 13 years in Bandera, but prior to this, his life was in San Patricio, TX. One of his most fulfilling jobs was being a counselor for Child Protective Services and Foster Care for the State Department of Public Welfare. After his employment ended, he was honored to be invited to be a member of the Child Welfare Board. He moved on to the oil industry where he worked as the Senior Surveyor for Sperry-Sun of Corpus Christi and then filled many different manager positions and ultimately Houston District Supervisor for SII Servco Oil out of Gardena, Ca. John later had many wonderful years working for Workforce Network Inc where he ultimately became the Director of Urban Operations. In 2005, his family made the move to the Hill Country where he became the Assistant Center Manager- Kerrville, Boerne, Bandera, New Braunfels, and Fredericksburg for Alamo Area Council of Governments. He finally ended his careers as a beloved Realtor in Bandera, TX. \r\n\r\nJohn was known to love to pull pranks on his friends and you could always bet that if there was a crowd of people laughing, he was in the middle of it. Those who knew him as "Taco" could attest to this and more…which probably wouldn't be appropriate for publication. He loved his horses and spending time in a cutting show arena. He loved being at youth rodeos where his daughter competed and where he met what would ultimately be some of his closest friends. No matter what stage of his life people would meet or interact with him, he would try to be what ever they needed him to be. He would try to make you laugh if you looked sad (sometimes more successful than others), be a rock if it looked like you needed something steady to stand on, be the jokester when you were having a boring workday, or just be there when you really needed someone to listen. \r\n\r\nEven though the incredible memories of him would fill the pages of all the newspapers in the world, when it is all said and done, he just wanted to be a good father, a good husband, and a good friend. \r\n\r\nJohn was predeceased by his father, Hector Figueroa. He is survived by his daughter, Morgan and wife, Michaella; his mother, Aida; his brother, Eddie and his wife, Michelle; his nephew, Justin and his wife Sara; and many, many loving relatives in Puerto Rico and the States. \r\n\r\nA Memorial Mass will be held at 2 pm Thursday, January 18 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bandera, Texas. A reception will follow at St. Josephs Hall across the street from the Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of one's choice.
