John Luther Walters Jr. passed away peacefully February, 4, 2019 in Kerrville, Texas. He is survived by his children, Rev. John S. Walters (Barbara Walters), Viki Vessell (Rocky Vessell), Wendy Pecikonis (Mark Pecikonis), Cindy Collier (Ken Collier), 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.\r\n\r\nBorn on August, 13, 1927 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Rev. John L. Walters Sr. and Agnes Reynolds Walters, John "J.L." grew up in Ft. Worth, served in the U.S. Merchant Marines and Marine Corps and graduated from TCU in 1951. He married Jeanne Curlee in 1950, married for 63 years until her death in 2014. \r\n\r\nJohn's lengthy law enforcement career began as a motorcycle patrolman in the Marines. He was a special agent for the Southern Pacific Railroad. In 1964, John joined the F.B.I. as special agent, serving 20 years in California and San Antonio offices, retiring in1984. \r\n\r\nHis F.B.I. career included serving as firearms and defensive tactics instructor for all Los Angeles law enforcement agencies. John was involved in the first F.B.I. SWAT team and member for over 10 years. He was involved in the Patty Hearst case and the demise of the Symbionese Liberation Army. \r\n\r\nJohn moved to Camp Verde after retiring from the F.B.I. He ran for Kerr County Sheriff in 1984 and remained active in law enforcement as a member of the Sheriffs' Assn. of Texas, Former Texas Rangers Assn. and Texas Police Assn. \r\n\r\nA dedicated Christian, John was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Kerrville. He loved his family, his dog Foxie, drinking coffee with friends, collecting guns, hunting, and shooting at the range. \r\n\r\nMemorial services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Trinity Baptist Church officiated by Rev. John Wheat.
