John Lee Newton, of Leakey, passed away on May 8, 2024, in Bandera, Texas. He was born on January 1, 1959, in Denton, Texas, and was adopted by Virgil and Alene Newton.
He grew up in Lake Dallas and graduated from Lake Dallas High School, where he enjoyed playing in the marching, concert, and stage bands, playing both the drums and guitar. He was recognized in many contests as an outstanding musician and named to the All-Star band. After graduation, he worked for many years as a skilled carpenter in and around the Lake Dallas area. He is remembered by his family and friends for his big heart and warm smile. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and playing the guitar.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil, and Alene Newton.
John is survived by his daughter, Tamara Mata, and her husband Landon; his son, Bobby Newton; grandchildren, Adison, and Brendan Mata; his brother, Joe Newton; his sister, Patricia Newton; and his brother in love, Kevin Roach.
A private burial will take place at a later date.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Bandera Nursing Home and Alamo Hospice.
