John Wayne Harkins, 79, passed away on November 28, 2014 at home in Kerrville, Texas. He was born in Groveton, Texas to Jessie Bledsoe Harkins and Ethel Mattie Bazar Harkins on June 25th, 1935. He married Joyce Maxine Harkins on August 27, 1971 in Conroe, Texas.\r\n\r\nHe went to school in Groveton and Cleveland, Texas. He graduated in Cleveland in 1953. He worked as a Nabisco Salesman for 15 years, owned three convenient stores for 15 years and worked for the Kerrville ISD Transportation Department until he retired. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was involved in the JC's, coached Little League Football and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. \r\n\r\nJohn Wayne Harkins was preceded in death by father, Jessie Bledsoe Harkins; mother, Ethel Mattie Bazar Harkins; brother, Jean Harkins; and son, Robert Insall.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by wife, Maxine Harkins; son, Wayne Cowart and wife, Peggy Cowart; daughter, Toni Kelly and husband, Naymon Kelly; daughter, Tammy Oehlert; daughter, Susan Eudaley; son, Frank Insall; sister, Janis Taylor; sister, Judy McLin; brother, Toby Harkins; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. \r\n\r\nVisitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson, Kerrville, Texas. \r\n\r\nGraveside services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 10:15 am.
