John Cummings

John Carl Cummings, 77, of Uvalde, TX, passed away on March 21, 2017 in Kerrville, TX. He was born in Sabinal, TX to Jack and Margie D. Cummings on June 25, 1939. He married Shirley Ann Everett on April 12, 1957 in Uvalde.\r\n \r\nHe went to school in Uvalde and was a life-long resident. He worked for H.B. Zachary with his father building bridges and culverts all through Texas for many years. He later worked for General Tire Test Track in Uvalde for 20 years. He was a long time Uvalde County Rancher alongside his brother, Taylor Cummings. He was a member of the Uvalde Church of Christ.\r\n \r\nHe is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved grandson, Jared Daniel Reece.\r\n \r\nHe is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Shirley Ann Cummings; his daughter, Phyllis Cook and husband R.G. of Kerrville; daughter, Joanie Reece of Kerrville; brother, Taylor Cummings and wife Phyllis of Concan and their daughter Margie Hocker and husband Michael of Kerrville; sister, Nelda Flowers and son John Michael Flowers of Uvalde; grandson, Trey Cook and wife Sara of Austin; granddaughter, Kayla Cook Brown and husband Justin of Washington, D.C.; granddaughter, Nakai Reece of Kerrville; and great-granddaughters, MaKayla Mae Knight of Winters and Lila Elizabeth Cook of Austin.\r\n \r\nJohnny, also known as Bubba and Uncle Bubba to close family members, wasn't much of a traveler, but loved to read and could speak extensively on anything to do with history. The Civil War and World War II were especially favorite subjects, as well as biographies.\r\n \r\nGraveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Uvalde with Ray Melton officiating.\r\n \r\nMemorials may be given to Peterson Hospice of Kerrville or the charity of one's choice. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the offices of Dr.'s Rebecca Barrington, Valerian Chyle and Michael Rensch of Kerrville. Special thanks go to Terry and Cassie and all personnel of Peterson Hospice in Kerrville.
