John Chandler Capshaw Sr., 86, of Kerrville, TX, passed away on September 29, 2018. He was born on July 25, 1932 in Tulsa, OK to Lee Finley Capshaw and Ruth Mantle (nee Parker). He married Betty McGonigle on January 9, 1960 in Brownsville, TX.\r\n\r\nHe graduated from Okmulgee High School as valedictorian in 1950. He graduated from Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO with a BS in Petroleum Engineering in 1954. He was a member of The Engineering Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a corporal in the Army, stationed in San Antonio, TX. He received his MS in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas in 1959. He was active in the oil and gas business in Houston for many years with Shell Oil, John W. Mecom Interests, Southern Mineral Corporation (Corpus Christi), and Entex, Inc. and as an independent owner of several companies before his retirement.\r\n\r\nHe was an active member of the Episcopal church for many years including St. John the Divine in Houston and St. Peter's in Kerrville. His great interests were family, choral singing in church, the Houston Master Works Chorus and Hill Country Corral, tennis and his cats. Not necessarily in that order.\r\n\r\nJohn is survived by his wife Betty; along with his three children, Megan Capshaw and husband John Dugdale of Dallas, TX, John Capshaw Jr. of Houston, TX, and Courtney Capshaw of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren, Madeleine Capshaw, J. Chandler Capshaw III, and Finley Capshaw.
