John Campbell

August 2, 1926 — July 4, 2015

It is only fitting that John Scott Campbell passed on the evening of July 4, 2015. Born in Seneca County, Ohio in 1926, the son of Robert Clark and Emma Ada (Wood) Campbell he was a patriotic man all his life. He served in the United States Merchant Marine for four years (1942 - 1946) and in all the theatres of World War II. He survived the sinking of three ships to German mines and torpedoes, and made trips on the deadly gauntlet of the "Murmansk Run." Although precluded from serving in the Armed Forces, he was proud of his service under fire and the U. S. Navy & U. S. M. M. he served with. He received his draft notice while with the forces liberating the Philippines and finally received a discharge from the U. S. Coast Guard in 1988.\r\n\r\nHe married M. Jane Moots of Fostoria, Ohio, who preceded him in death in 1992 in Kerrville. John & "Janie" had two sons, Hon. Jeff Clark Campbell of Colorado and Dr. Joel Ross Campbell, Okinawa, who survive them. After a lifetime as a professional sales representative for various corporations, he worked for the Texas Railroad Commission as an LP Gas Inspector until his retirement in 1988. His two main passions were American history and traveling while enjoying the company of other travelers. Although a Christian his primary religious belief centered on the Golden Rule.\r\n\r\nJohn was a founder of the Kerrville Toastmasters and a member of the Texas Lodge of the Masons since the 1970s.\r\n\r\nJohn was also preceded in death by his brother Robert Clark and two sisters Clara Belle "Sis" Adelsperger and Ann. He has several nieces and nephews. He has one granddaughter, Jacey B. Renner who is with her husband Major James Renner, USAF serving abroad and they have one great grandson, Campbell James Renner.\r\n\r\nServices will comply with John's wishes of a simple graveside service with family and friends at the Garden of Memories at 10:AM on Thursday. Memorial donations may be given in his and Jane's memory to Peterson Hospice of Kerrville, Wounded Warrior Project or the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas. A special thank you from the family to the people of Peterson Hospice, Mary Beth, Lauran, Harley, Jessica and Caring Senior Services of Kerrville who all exhibited professionalism and the ability to care while doing a tough job. Also thanks go to Sheri and Ray from Peterson Home Care.\r\n\r\nA proud descendant of Clan Campbell, his last thoughts were "If it is to be, it is up to me," which he said came from his mother, Emma.\r\n\r\nGraveside services for John will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Garden of Memories with John Popp officiating.\r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
