Kerrville native John M. "Bud" Bonner Jr., son of John and Marguarite, passed away on November 28, 2015 at a hospital in San Antonio of congestive heart failure, surrounded by his loving family. \r\n \r\nBorn and raised in Kerrville, Bud graduated from Tivy High School and attended Texas A&M (formerly Texas A&I) on a football and basketball scholarship, graduating with a degree in Business. Bud then joined the Navy for four years, stationed in San Diego. After serving his country, he worked for Witco Chemical Corporation in Houston, retiring in 1992, Vice President. An avid sports enthusiast, Bud excelled at tennis, golf and running, completing several marathons. Bud was an outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt and ride horses. After meeting his wife Sandy in Houston, they became equestrians, showing their Paint horses on the show circuit around the country. Bud served as President of the Paint Horse Association of Houston for many years, was the President of the Pinto Horse Association of America in Houston and was on the Board of the University Savings and Loan Association in Houston. Bud and Sandy purchased their ranch, The Painted Horse, in 1974 for the purpose of raising their horses upon his retirement. The Painted Horse Ranch was extended to include a full bed and breakfast in 1996, which Bud and Sandy ran, along with breeding horses. Bud was a religious, fun-loving, positive man, who loved to laugh and be surrounded by family and friends. \r\n \r\nHe is survived by his loving wife Sandy of 42 years, son John M. Bonner III, (Kim) of Houston, son Douglas Dukes (Robert) of Austin and daughter Kim Everett (Thom) of Austin. Bud was also a proud grandfather to John IV, Travis, Leslie, Mia, Matthew, William, and Grayson. Bud is survived by his sister Peggy Frost of San Antonio, special nephew Carole Frost Jr. (Letty) of San Antonio and family. \r\n \r\nFuneral services will be held 1 PM, Thursday, December 3, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with a private family burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville, TX.\r\n
