April 19, 1934 — February 10, 2025

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith 2 Tim 4:7

Joe D Brittain, age 90, passed away from this worldly life on February 10, 2025, in Kerrville, Texas. The family is deeply saddened and will forever miss Jody, as he was known as by family and friends.

Jody is survived by his brother, Gary Brittain (Pat) and children, Arnold Brittain (Danielle), Wayne Brittain (Monica) and daughter, Machelle Brittain. He will be forever cherished and remembered by his three grandchildren, Tyler Saunders (Lindsey), Brooke Saunders and Seth Saunders (Audrey) and four great-grandchildren, Emma, Owen, Isaac and Allie Saunders. Jody will also be greatly missed by his extended family and numerous lifelong friends he made during his life.

Jody was predeceased by his parents Joseph Oliver and Ranghild Anderson Brittain, his sister Georganna, and his wife, Carlyne.

Jody was born on April 19, 1934, in Harlingen, Texas, but grew up in Rio Hondo, Texas. He was the oldest of three children born to Joseph and Ranghild Brittain. After graduating from Rio Hondo High School, Jody embarked on a career in aviation mechanics. He loved to talk about the time he worked for his Uncle Joe’s crop-dusting business and their time in West Texas. On April 20, 1961, he married Carlyne Ann Worthington. At the time of her death in 2019, they had been married for 58 years.

In 1983, Jody and Carlyne fulfilled their dream of moving to the Texas Hill Country when they relocated and built their home in Medina, Texas. Jody enjoyed teaching his great nieces and nephews and grandchildren how to fish and love the outdoors. He also enjoyed puttering them around on his minibike or lawn mower, often times allowing them to drive while he patiently rode in the trailer being pulled. His dry sense of humor lead him to being a grand story and joke teller of the family. In his later years, he could be found tinkering with his lawn mower, or out in the yard looking for his next project.

Family and friends were of the utmost importance to Jody. He relished the time spent at family reunions reconnecting with extended family he didn’t get to see often. Jody also enjoyed going his class reunion so he could see childhood friends and reminisce about “the good old days”. Sundays were reserved for playing dominoes with his cousins, Jayne, Martha Lou, Anna Lee and honorary cousin Delores.

Jody was not scared of hard work and did so with honesty and integrity. He had very strong values and was well liked by everyone, mostly due to his kind, warm energy. He had incredible patience and always made time to help others without reservation or expecting anything in return.

His memory will carry on forever reminding us of the importance of hard work, patients but most of staying connected with family.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Bandera Funeral Chapel.
