Jerry Lewis Barton, 71, of Seguin, Texas, passed away on August 11, 2020 in Seguin. He was born in Lamesa, Texas, on March 4, 1949, to Amos Nuell Barton and Elerene Berryhill Barton. Jerry was married to Debbie Thomas Barton of Seguin, Texas who loved and cared for him selflessly.\r\n\r\nHe attended O'Donnell High School and South Plains College, and became a farmer and rancher in O'Donnell, Texas. At age 13, Jerry and his brothers took over the family farm after his father's death. Jerry served in the U.S. Army as a forward observer. After his military service, he became a sharecropper farming cotton, and eventually built a successful farming operation and became an owner of a John-Deere dealership. He was an avid outdoorsman, guiding hunts in Colorado and chasing quail and deer across Texas. He shared that passion for the outdoors with his three boys, and always wished he could fish as well as his younger brother, Monty. Jerry loved old western movies and novels, and throughout his life could be seen driving a new pickup, and wearing starched custom shirts, Wranglers, his cowboy hat and his Leddy boots. Later in life, he became fond of driving around the Hill Country to country and western dances, where he met his wife, Debbie. He dipped Copenhagen snuff-even when the hospital said it wasn't allowed, because like most things, he had the best of intentions and made his own rules.\r\n\r\nJerry was preceded in death by his father, mother, and his older brother, Jimmy Barton. \r\n\r\nJerry is survived by his wife, Debbie, his sons Amos Barton of Kerrville, Texas, Zachary Barton of Woodbury, Minnesota, Matthew Barton of Bryan, Texas, his brother Monty Barton of Klondike, Texas, three daughters-in-law and ten grandchildren.\r\n\r\nThe family will be having a private memorial ceremony in his honor.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be given to Wounded Warriors In Action Foundation. www.wwiaf.org
