Jeanne Steeper Evans was born March 5, 1929 in Kansas City, MO to Thomas P Steeper and Helen Olga Clark. She was loved and raised by Charles Carpenter. She passed peacefully from this earth to her heavenly home on March 4, 2020 in Norman, OK.\r\n\r\nJeanne grew up in Bartlesville, OK and attended Catholic School. Jeanne was an avid horsewoman and barrel racer in her youth and younger years.\r\n\r\nShe began trick riding in Jr High School. Her first fabulous trick riding Horse was purchased from the famous Tom Mix. Jeanne graduated Bartlesville High School and went on to attend Texas A&M at OSU. While trick riding in Texas she met her "favorite cowboy". She married Houston Evans September 12, 1950. They lived on the family farm at Somerset, Texas before moving to the family ranch between Knippa,TX and Uvalde, TX. They had two sons who preceded them in death, Dunn Houston Evans and Jim Houston Evans and two daughters Jan Evans Smith (who preceded her in death) and Jean Evans. Dunn was married to Jane Evans Schauer and they had two sons, Dee Houston Evans, wife Haley and their children Dylan and Sam. Kelly Cole Evans and his wife Megan and their children Ella and Dunn. Jan was married to JP Smith and had three children, Justin J and Angelia, daughter Kaydence, Jody Lester and wife Dana,and children Jackson Smith, Dalton Brown, Ashton Brown, and Jacy Ann Smith Dobbins married to Nic Dobbins, and children Brady, Cooper and Berkley. Jean Evans has two daughters, Christy Finsel Boyle and husband Dan and children Anelise. Haley Houston Evans Greenough, Husband Clint Greenough, daughter Tinsley. Jeanne had many cherished nieces, Suzanne Downie Armstrong and Christine Downie Hinkle and Paula Kay Steeper.\r\n\r\nJeanne was very proud to be a ranch woman all of her married life, alongside Houston. She had the deepest Catholic faith and honored her Lord daily. One of her greatest attributes was teaching Religious Education for over 28 yrs and she wanted to pass her faith onto her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jeanne was very honored to be a Native American Indian of the Osage Tribe of Oklahoma. This Heritage was very important to her. Jeanne was one of the founders of the West of the Pecos Cattlewomen and later helped start another chapter, the Southwest Texas Cattlewomen. The dear friends and acquaintances she acquired were truly cherished. \r\n\r\nChaplet of Devine Mercy Saturday, March 14, 2020, 10:30 AM, St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Bandera, TX, Funeral Service at 11:00 AM followed by burial at St. Stanislaus Old Catholic Cemetery.\r\n\r\nPallbearers: Beaumont Watkins, Phil Lyne, Roy Angermiller, John Singleton, Mike Jurecski, Roger Trevino, Owen Weaver.\r\n\r\nHonorary Pallbearers: Walter Armstrong, JP Smith, Glen Bob Hinkle, Justin Smith,Howard Ponish, Jody Smith, Bob Lowe, Nic Dobbins, Tooter Waites, Clint Greenough, Alton Smith, Dee Evans, Cole Evans.\r\n\r\nDonations can be made to West Texas Boys Ranch or South Texas Cattlewomen or St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.\r\n\r\n
