\r\nJames Edward (Jimmy) Peril, age 74, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017, in the Southwest Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, TX. He was born October 16, 1942 in Fredericksburg, TX to J.R. and Dixie (Baker) Peril. He married Johnnie Kay Barnett on December 28, 1963 in Marble Falls, TX.\r\n\r\nJimmy attended school in Harper, TX. He and several of his classmates joined the Texas National Guard immediately following their graduation from high school in 1960 and served many years in the Guard. He attended Tarleton State College and Angelo State before graduating from Southwest State College (Texas State University) with a degree in agriculture. He was a coach and teacher for several years in the Center Point and Harper school systems. However he would tell you that the best job he ever had was the 42 years that he served as a hunting guide at the YO Ranch. Hunting and guiding became his passion and he had many friends and acquaintances from all over the world. Jimmy and Johnnie lived on and engaged in ranching for many years on the family land purchased one hundred years ago. \r\n\r\nJimmy was involved with the 4-H and FFA organizations in Harper, first participating and showing animals himself. As a teacher, he was very proud of his ag students who under his direction not only learned valuable work ethics but also life skills. In later years he enjoyed helping his children, Jim and Mary, with their show projects. He served on the Harper Community Park Board, was a member of the Harper Presbyterian Church. He was a charter member of the Exotics Association and held a life membership in that organization.\r\n\r\nJimmy truly enjoyed life. Never seen without a smile on his face, he liked nothing more than to visit with family and friends and share stories with them. He had a keen sense of humor and always had a joke to share. He was a devoted family man and took great pride in the accomplishments of his children. He will be missed by all who knew him. We know he is on that last hunt with the Greatest Guide of all time and we look forward to the day we can join him there.\r\n\r\nJimmy was preceded in death by his parents, J.R. & Dixie Peril and numerous aunts & uncles.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Johnnie Kay of Harper, son, James Arthur (Jim) Peril and wife Dori of Granite Shoals, TX, daughter Mary Janae Peril of Bandera, TX and sister Jaydean Peril Urban and husband Paul, Harper, TX; sister-in-law Nona Fox & husband Mark, Marble Falls.
