James is a testament to strength, kindness, and love. Born with cerebral palsy, James defied all odds and graced this world with his presence far longer than expected, becoming an inspiration for all who knew him. Wherever he went, he instantly became a beloved figure among staff and residents alike, sharing his warmth and teaching invaluable lessons about perseverance. Known for his strong, affectionate hugs and a smile that could light up a room, James was not defined by his limitations.
James spent his early years surrounded by family in Bandera, TX. In 1971, he transitioned to the Austin State School in search of specialized care. In 1991, James returned to the hill country, settling in Kerrville, TX, under the care of Hill Country MHDD, where he lived for 31 years. His final chapter brought him back home to Bandera, where he was lovingly cared for by Bandera Nursing and Rehabilitation.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Albina Sprencel Mazurek and Herman Victor Mazurek, as well as his brother, Milton Louis Mazurek.
He is survived by his siblings: Margie Ann Qualls (Gene), Kenneth Raymond Mazurek (Dianna), Sidney Herman Mazurek (Joy), and Deborah Kathryn Kaspar (Marcus). He was cherished by his nine nieces and nephews—Nancy Cox (Rob), Judy Feese (Troy), Michael Mazurek, Matthew Mazurek, Patrick Mazurek (Sharon), Kenny Mazurek (Alyson) , Hannah Descheneaux (JP), BJ Newcomer (Amy), and Christopher Newcomer—as well as eleven great-nieces and great-nephews, with one more on the way.
