James Machicek

James Machicek, age 81, of Kerrville, Texas passed away on December 31,2014. He was born on December 3, 1933 to August Machicek and Mary (Riha) Machicek. He was the 10th born of 11 children. He was married to the late Bernice (Trlica) Machicek on October 31, 1959. \r\n\r\nJames was born in Engle, Texas on the family farm and went to school in Schulenburg, Texas. He graduated from high school in 1952 and decided to try life in the big city. He went to San Antonio and attended Draughon's Business College. He worked at Coca Cola Bottling Company during that time and upon finishing business school he was employed at Lone Star Brewing Company as an Accountant in March of 1955. On July 12, 1956, James was drafted into the Army and served two years on active duty. James's most memorable military moment was serving on the Army Honor Guard at the White House when Queen Elizabeth visited Washington in 1957. He continued in a reserve capacity and was Honorably Discharged from the Army on June 30, 1962.\r\n\r\nUpon his return, James resumed his career at Lone Star Brewery. In order to support the family and allow Bernice to stay at home to raise their children, he worked in the Accounting Department at Lone Star during the day and on the loading docks at Lone Star at night loading the beer trucks for the next day. James eventually became the Comptroller at Lone Star Brewery and was employed with them until January 1977. The brewery was bought out by Olympia Brewing Company and all of the Accounting Department was moved to Olympia, Washington. James would continue to work in the accounting field until he retired. He worked as Comptroller for Ace Manufacturing, Alamo Tractor Company, MF Bandy Contractors and Howard Campbell Engine Builders.\r\n\r\nJames is survived by his four children, Susan Buie (spouse Michael), and three sons, Robert (spouse Jeannie), Craig (spouse Brenda Sue) and Brian (spouse Cyndy); nine grandchildren, Tiffany Schneider, Christopher Machicek, Tyler Machicek, Kayla Machicek, Brett Machicek, Josh Machicek, Sara Machicek, Morgan Buie and Bailey Buie; and two great grandchildren, Sydney and Reiken Schneider.\r\n\r\nA Rosary will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Visitation will begin at 5:00pm. The Rosary service at 6:00pm will be led by Deacon Sonny Kaufold of Notre Dame Catholic Church. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 1:30 pm with Monsignor Michael Boulette presiding at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Kerrville, Texas. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be made to Notre Dame Catholic Church in Kerrville, Texas or St. Peter Upon the Water Spiritual Direction and Formation Center in Ingram, Texas.\r\n\r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
