James Hurr, 76, of Kerrville, Texas passed away on December 20, 2017. He crossed peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was a loving, caring, supportive husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend who was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Frank and Dorthea (Patett) Hurr in 1941. In 1965 Jim married and shared 53 wonderful years with the love of his life, Joanne (DaCorte) Hurr.\r\n \r\nJim was a 1959 graduate of Tilden Tech High School in Chicago. He worked for his uncle's landscaping business and then found his passion in masonry. He was a very talented, skilled mason. In 1988 Jim followed a dream and moved with his wife to the beautiful Hill Country in Kerrville, TX. He began working for Dean Mitchell Masonry where he made a name for himself, especially with his glass block creations and elaborate fireplaces. This allowed Jim to start his own business, A & J Masonry. He retired in 2005. In addition to his passion for his work, he loved fishing and traveling to casinos. He was a member of the Kerrville Elks Lodge.\r\n \r\nJim is survived by his wife, Joanne (DaCorte) Hurr; and three children: daughter, Dawn Hurr and partner Brian Ward of Kerrville, TX, daughter, Kim Murray of Cincinnati, OH and son, James Hurr and wife Julie of Cameron, NC. He has 4 grandchildren, Jerold Murray, Tara Murray, Jadyn Hurr, and Jacob Hurr; and one great-grandchild, Bryn Murray. He is also survived by his sister, Judy with husband Bill Thomson; sister, Janice with husband Richard Arnold; brother-in-law, Bob DaCorte; sister-in-law, Terri Kobus; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.\r\n \r\nJim is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorthea (Patett) Hurr; and sister, Joanne Harper.\r\n \r\nA celebration of Jim's life memorial will be held at a later date.
