James Everette Howell, 57, of Center Point, TX, has gone home to be with his Maker. He passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016 in San Antonio, TX. \r\n \r\nJames was born October 23, 1958 in New Orleans, Louisiana, to parents Lenora Verlene Banta and Homer Everette Howell.\r\n \r\nIn his younger years, James enjoyed bowling, was in the Boy Scouts, and the rifle club where he earned his sharpshooter ranking. All through life, James enjoyed swimming in the rivers...so much so, he was famously dubbed the "Damm River Rat". He loved fishing, camping, being outdoors among nature and wildlife. In particular, James was fond of snakes and was an expert in the raising, handling, and taking care of snakes. He also liked collecting geodes, arrowheads, and other Indian artifacts.\r\n \r\nJames moved to Center Point, Texas in the 80s and worked in the oil field industry most of his adult career, although his last ten years were spent as a successful mudlogger. James was always careful to share and quick to help anyone needing a hand. He was a kind and faithful man who acquired many friends along the way. James loved to travel and always made sure to live life to the fullest, yet also making time to stop and take it all in; He enjoyed stopping to read the historical markers and taking lots of pictures. One of his sayings was, "I am me. And you are you."...simple and smart...and always to the point. James will be greatly missed by so many.\r\n \r\nJames was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Daryl Howell, his sister Barbara Howell-Hester, and his nephew, Charlie Howell.\r\n \r\nHe is survived by two daughters: Jamie, her husband Nathan, and son (grandson) Torben Honaker of Center Point, TX, as well as Jessica Belanger-Howell, Jose Reyna, and son (grandson) Jose Reyna Jr. of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by two sisters: Linda Buchanan of Kingwood, TX, as well as Brenda and husband Johnny Clayton of McMahan, TX. In addition, James is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends... all who love him greatly and will miss him dearly.\r\n \r\nServices will be held 2 PM, Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville officiated by Greg Boothby. Interment will follow at Center Point Cemetery. \r\n
