James England, Sr.

James Richard England was born in Santa Anna, Texas to George Thomas England and Bessie Viola Newman England on April 15th, 1929. He went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2015. He married Geraldine Graham England February 26, 1952, in Port Sulphur, Louisiana. \r\n \r\nHe was preceded in death by one son, Tyrone Craig England in 2005; and siblings, G.T. England Jr., Roy B. England, and Marilynne England Warren. \r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife of 63 years; sons, James R. England Jr. and Nick L. England; grandchildren, James R. England III, Nicole England, SGT Sonya Dame and husband, Gordon and Danielle Bonanno; a great grandson, Ethan England; brother, Joe and wife, Lyne England; sister in law, Joyce England; and numerous nieces and nephews.\r\n \r\nHe served in the US Navy for three years from 1947 until 1950. He then attended Howard Payne University until he joined The Department of Public Safety. He served there for 33 years from 1951 until 1984. He served in Pecos, Sterling City and Houston. In 1958, James and his family moved to Kerrville, Texas where he served as Sergeant of the Highway Patrol until 1984. He then went to work at LDB Corporation as Security Guard for many years.\r\n \r\nJames and Gerry met at Howard Payne University. They had a trigonometry class together. There were about 40 boys in the class. James always put the problems on the board and she was the only girl in the class. He was a former Navy man and she was a Registered Nurse. They couldn't miss each other. He made 100 on a test and she made a grade too low to count. She needed help from the smartest boy in the class. They got married. James was an avid sports fan. He loved football and golf. He once shot his age in golf and the whole family was proud. He often cooked Sunday dinner for his family with as many as ten or more present. There was always plenty of good food for everyone. He was a great friend to many and loved being a Greeter at Trinity Baptist Church for many years. He was loving and caring to his family and friends, always helping when needed. He is greatly loved and missed.\r\n \r\nServices will be held Monday, July 27, 2015, 11 AM at Grimes Funeral Chapels officiated by Rev. John Wheat. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.\r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
