Jack Pearce Murray, 86 passed away peacefully on March 12, 2015 of heart failure in Kerrville, Texas. He was born in Wharton, Texas to Jack Pearce Murray and Mary Jeter Bolton Murray.\r\n \r\nJack attended Schreiner Institute and Southwestern University where he was awarded 3 varsity letters in football and 2 varsity letters in track. Coach Murray started his coaching career in 1955 at Cleburne High School as a football, tennis and track coach. Four years later he moved to Kerrville as Tivy High School's track coach.\r\n \r\nIn 7 years as track coach Jack Murray was instrumental in laying the foundation for Tivy's successful track program. Coach Murray volunteered many years of service as the "voice of the Antler Relays."\r\n \r\nIn addition to athletics, Jack was a man of great wit entertaining a group with his stories of past adventures. He loved his students and remembers all of those he coached.\r\n \r\nHe also served in several service organizations. He was President of the Texas State Teachers Organization, Kiwanis, Lions Club, and in retirement he was member of Texas Retired Teachers Association and the Alamo Defenders Descendents Association. Jack loved to read and was an avid map reader. He loved history, fishing and gardening.\r\n \r\nJack had a strong work ethic which was instilled in him by his grandfather Charles Bolton. Jack had a job by the time he was 10 selling popcorn at the movie theatre in Wharton. He remembers a man running down the street yelling,"They have bombed Pearl Harbor." People would say "where is Pearl Harbor?" During World War II, he had a victory garden, and stood watch for submarines in the Gulf of Mexico.\r\n \r\nHe worked at Texas Gulf Sulfur Co. in New Gulf for 5 years before he started his coaching and teaching career. In Kerrville I.S.D. he served as Assistant Principal at Tivy High School and Principal for Peterson Middle School.\r\n \r\nJack was preceded in death by his parents, his late wife and the mother of his children, Katy. He is survived by Lucy Barnes Murray, his wife of 18 years, son Robert Blair Murray, wife Bobbie, daughter Mary Clare Fawcett, husband Bud, stepsons Jack Ament, wife Shannon, and Reagan Ament. He had 7 grandchildren, Josh Murray, wife Crystal, Miles Murray, wife Valerie, Jaclyn Fawcett Bustos, husband Matt, Sally Fawcett and fiance Trey Tilton, Will Fawcett, Ryan and Jackson Ament. He had 4 great grandchildren, Hudson, Griffin, Matthew Murray, and Pearce Bustos.\r\n \r\nGraveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Jack Murray home following the service.
