September 1, 1961 — December 8, 2017

Ismael Zacarias Torres, age 56, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 in Houston, Texas. He was born September 1, 1961 in Kerrville, Texas.\r\n \r\nHe graduated from Tivy High School in 1979 at the age of 17. Too young to work at Exxon, he spent that summer working for HEB as a night stocker where he worked his way up to manager of that department until he was old enough to apply and start the job he already had at Exxon. The spark for the oil field industry was lit when Mr. John Lavender, his teacher at Tivy, invited a friend who was a representative for Exxon to speak at Career Day on the oil field industry. At 18, he traveled to Fort Stockton where he worked as a roustabout for two years until he transferred to Midland/Odessa. In 1990, he transferred to Houston. Somewhere along the way he became an engineer for Exxon. From 2005 to 2007, he traveled to Malaysia, Venezuela, Nigeria and South Korea. He was the lead for deploying software that would assist subsurface engineers in capturing the work performed in wells. In 2008, he became BTPO (Building the Production Organization) Advisor to the future phase projects. ExxonMobil has over 20 years of continuous business in Russia with about 1,000 employees. One of the offices is located in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Island off the coast of East Russia and Japan. During his stay in South Korea, Ish was part of a team in charge of the construction schedule as well as the commissioning of the Top side where they would verify that the construction was performed under the highest standards and safety. Construction of the Berkut was near Busan, South Korea and was hauled to Russia. In 2014, the Berkut (Golden Eagle in Russian) platform was installed and, in 2015, it began production.\r\n \r\nIsh is survived by his eldest son, Zac Torres, from a previous marriage, and three grandsons and one granddaughter through Zac. He is also survived by his present wife, Yulia, their son, Axl and daughter, Rocksan. Also surviving are six siblings, Araceli, Rebekah, Elizabeth, Ruth and husband Hagi, Jose Luis and wife Sonya, and Benjamin along with 6 nieces and nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Ish was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Maria Torres. \r\n \r\nIsh will be greatly, greatly missed and always remembered...May the Lord, in His great mercy, receive him into the light of His face.\r\n \r\nRosary will be held 6 PM, Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Grimes Funeral Chapels.\r\n \r\nMass will be 10 AM, Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Father David Wagner as celebrant.
