Inez E. Van Alst, 95 of Kerrville, passed away on May 17, 2019 in Kerrville, Texas. She was born in Poughkeepsie, NY to Frank and Bertha (Anderson) Stoneman on December 10, 1923. She married Charles M. Van Alst on December 24, 1945.\r\n\r\nShe attended Staatsburg Union School in Staatsburg, NY and graduated from the University of the State of New York (SUNY New Paltz) State Teachers College in 1945. Her first year of elementary school teaching was in Red Hook, NY. The next three years she taught in her hometown, Staatsburg Union School, Staatsburg, NY. While raising a family she substituted at New Paltz Central School. Inez was an active member of the Reformed Church of New Paltz, NY and co-directed the Sunday school classes and activities. She enjoyed knitting the beautiful Norwegian mittens for the fall festival. Inez enjoyed playing tennis and bridge well into her 80's. While she and her husband raised their family, she partnered in the running of Wallkill Valley Farms, a poultry and young stock farm.\r\n\r\nInez is preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Van Alst and son Charles K. (Skip) Van Alst\r\n\r\nInez Van Alst is survived by son, Lewis F. and Linda (Sherman) Van Alst of Citrus Heights, CA; daughter, Ann and Harold (Mitchell) Van Alst of Ingram, TX; daughter-in-law, Susan (Wisby) Van Alst of New Paltz; brother, William Stoneman and Carol Lawatsch of Pompano Beach, FL; grandsons, Christopher and Bonnie Eschbach of Constantia, NY, Kenneth and Nadine Van Alst of Smyrna, NY and James and Eileen of Frederick, MD; granddaughter, Laura and Nathan Harl of Albuquerque, NM; great-grandsons, Amon Van Alst of Smyrna, NY, Angelo and Marshall Van Alst of Frederick, MD and Caleb Harl of Albuquerque, NM; and several nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nFamily and friends are invited for graveside services at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2019 at New Paltz Rural Cemetery on Plains Road in New Paltz, NY.
