Herminia Martinez

April 21, 1960 — April 5, 2015

If you are thinking about throwing out those old clothes wait and consider Herminia Martinez (affectionately known as Babe, Minnie, Minnie-Pearl, Mrs. Minnie, Momma and Nana) who went to be with our Lord Saturday, April 4, 2015. Her legacy is carried on by her husband, her four children, four grandchildren, eight surviving siblings and countless extended family and friends from every walk of life. Minnie could spot unused or outgrown clothes like a hound on a coon hunt. But even better she already had a person in mind that could use them even before they were available. No one went without clothes when Minnie was around, even if it were literally the coat off her own back.\r\n \r\nNever leave anything at her house you want back, she can find a home for it in less than 24 hrs, and we do not mean the trash. It might be a stuffed animal given to a kid in a parking lot or a jacket given to an employee. Or it could be your "bow and arrow" set.\r\n \r\nAlways cook for an army and invite anyone who comes to your door in for a meal, even if you have never met them before.\r\n \r\nSpoil your grandkids with lots of time and lots of laughter. Don't be afraid to act their age. They won't forget you.\r\n \r\nNever leave without a hug or a kiss.\r\n \r\nAlways be early wherever you go, it shows people how important they are. Even if you arrive an "hour" early and pester everyone else meeting you every five minutes until they show up.\r\n \r\nCall those you love everyday, don't text. Nothing can be said better in text that can't be spoken.\r\n \r\nNever let your gas tank go below ½ tank, you never know when someone might need you.\r\n \r\nAlways give that stranger a ride even if "he" says he is a cook named "Betty Crocker."\r\n \r\nMake sure to have a pair of reading glasses in every room, every purse and every car. You shouldn't have to waste your time looking for them, even if they are still on your head.\r\n \r\nDo not own less than eight sets of pajamas and 15 bathing suits. You should always be ready to enjoy two of the best things in life, vegging in front of the TV to enjoy an LMN movie marathon or swimming anywhere there is water even if it is just a puddle from yesterdays rain.\r\n \r\nAlways, always, always call someone on their birthday and tell them how special they are, even before 6 am if that is all your schedule permits.\r\n \r\nMinnie left an impression on all with whom she encountered. By those she impacted the most you can ensure no one will go without clothing or toys, grandkids will be running rampant in waterparks and RV's camping out, every meeting and every departure will begin and end with a hug and kiss, every visitor will have a warm meal, you will never be late, those with "ancient" eyes will be able to read any magazine or newspaper on your coffee table. \r\n \r\nMinnie made everyone feel special. She solved world problems with her customers while visiting over a cup of coffee or laughing over a slice of cake.\r\n \r\nShe is survived by her husband, her children and grandchildren whose stories and photos she would share with anyone who would listen: Benjamin Martinez Jr, Samantha (husband Jeremy, children Addison and Caitlin); Benjamin E. (wife Micheel, child Allana); Rebecca (husband Jose, child Christian) and Nieves; siblings Manuel Rubio (wife Petra), Nicholas Rubio (wife Susie), Paul (wife Bella), Julian (wife Donna), George, Tim, Jesus, Gabe (wife Dawnell); many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten.\r\n \r\nMinnie is reunited in death with her parents Santos and Juana Rubio; her sisters Maria Saiz and Roberta Aguilar; her brother Samuel Rubio, her in-laws Benjamin and Maria Martinez Sr. along with multiple nephews.\r\n \r\nVisitation will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2015, 5-8 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels.\r\n \r\nFuneral services will be held Thursday, April 9, 2015, 10 AM at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor John Wheat officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. \r\n \r\nPallbearers will be her brothers Manuel, Nick, Paul, Tim, Gabe, George, Jesus and Julian. Honorary pallbearers are Jeremy Taylor, Jose Garcia, Tommy Taylor, Kelly Varwig, Brett Kraatz, Andrew Lopez, Jeremy Grandazzo, Jose Valdez and Juan Valdez.\r\n \r\nMemorial contributions can be made to the Peterson Wound Care Clinic. The family wished to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Michael Ross, Dr, Rebecca Barrington, Dr. Luke Harper, Dr. Taloza, Dr. Michael Speck, the exceptional group of hospitalists at PRMC, the staff at the Peterson Wound Care Clinic, Peterson Home Health and Peterson Hospice Care.\r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
