Henry Cortinas, 94 of Kerrville passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 in Kerrville. Henry was born in Cameron, Texas to Raphael and Christina Cortinas. Henry married the love of his life, Adelina, in the spring of 1947 after returning from his service in World War II.\r\n\r\nHenry was a child of the Depression and went to work early in life to help support the family. He answered his country's call to service once World War II broke out. He served in the Army Air Corps, earning an American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with One Bonze Star, Meritorious Unit Award, Victory Ribbon, and 3 overseas service bars. Henry was sent to Iwo Jima as part of the air base operations in early March, 1945. He was wounded but wasn't awarded a Purple Heart for some unknown reason. Henry remained on Iwo Jima until the end of the war.\r\n\r\nHenry is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Adelina; children, Steve, David and Robert Cortinas; grandchildren, Erik, Ramey, Edward, and Jason Cortinas, Rebecca Brueck, Sonja Cortinas, Stephanie Aguilar, Shawna Browning, Jerod Harvey, Vanessa Rodriguez, Veronica Trinidad, and Anthony Bautista; and thirty-three great grandchildren.\r\n\r\nA memorial will be held in the chapel at Hilltop Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 1:00PM. \r\n\r\nThe family wishes to extend its thanks to Dr. Shaw and all the staff on B wing, the nurses and staff of Peterson Hospice Care for the loving care and compassion they gave Henry and continue to give to Adelina.\r\n\r\n
