However, Hazel grew up and lived most of her life in South Carolina, the source of her strong Southern accent. She came back to Texas in 2004 when her daughter married L.D. "Brink" Brinkman, a well-known Kerrville entrepreneur.\r\n \r\nHazel was a registered nurse and certified nurse anesthetist for more than 50 years. She retired from the Veterans Administration in 1994, and received a number of commendations for her service.\r\n \r\nHazel is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Brinkman of Kerrville; grandson, Alexander Page, New York City; nieces Jacque Gerald and Nancy Tallevast; great-niece Bonnie George Smith; great-nephew Jack Gerald; numerous great- and great-great nieces/nephews and cousins; and her very spoiled and much-loved tuxedo cats, Sylvester and Sissy. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Muldrow Maxwell and Betty Lou Whitmer, and her beloved son-in-law, L.D."Brink" Brinkman.\r\n \r\nThe family thanks Brenda Whitaker and the wonderful staff at 220 Harper Assisted Living, Peterson Hospice, and the Heart Choices team for all their loving care and support.\r\n \r\nInterment will be at Sunset Cemetery in Mountain Home at a later date. \r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers or other honorarium, the family requests that donations be made to Hill Country CASA, Inc.
