Harry Ted Smith, 94, of Kerrville, died Nov. 5, 2018 at River Point of Kerrville. Ted was born May 29, 1924, in Rule, TX, to Rufus Hartwell and Ruth Smith. Ted married the love of his life, Mary Virginia Smith on August 3rd of 1957 at Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville.\r\n\r\nTed had two main passions in life: music and leading a Christ filled life. During WWII, Ted was a Chaplain's assistant and would play a portable organ at services held during breaks in battle at the Campaigns in Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe, Northern France and the Liberation of Paris. After the war, Ted attended Hardin Simmons University and graduated with a degree in Music. He served as a high school choir director for two years before relocating to Kerrville and working for the Veteran's Administration as a Recreation Leader. Ted's many promotions in the VA saw him move his family around the country from prairies to swamps to snow-capped mountains and finally back to Kerrville in 1985 where he spent the remainder of his life. Wherever he went, Ted would involve himself in music ministry of a local church, often as an organist. He was a deacon at Trinity Baptist for many years and participated in several mission trips to the Dominican Republic until he was 90. He loved helping minister to children and did so by sponsoring a young boy from the DR and being a mentor at Starkey elementary. Ted will be remembered as an encourager and source of constant support.\r\n\r\nTed is preceded in death by his parents R.H. and Ruth Smith; his siblings Carl, Sue, and Billy Smith; beloved wife Mary Virginia Smith; daughter Amy Smith; and granddaughter Nancy Smith.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his daughter Ann Margaret Smith of Ingram; grandchildren Marissa, Peter, and Beth Smith of Kerrville, and Daisy Smith of Greenville, TX; and his great-grandchildren Trenton Smith-Rowland, Faith Vinyard, Warren Humbert, and Malakai Williams.\r\n\r\nFuneral services will be held at 2 pm on Monday Nov 12, 2018 at Trinity Baptist Church, officiated by Chaplain and friend Chris Christopherson. Burial will follow in Glen Rest Cemetery of Kerrville, TX.\r\n\r\nThe family is most grateful to New Century Hospice and River Point of Kerrville for their loving care in his final weeks.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be given to South Texas Children's Home Ministries or the Hill Country Youth Ranch.
