Hans J. Poppe, 80 passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018 after an extended illness. He was born October 21, 1937 in a small town in Germany to Erich W. Poppe and Hildegard I. Poppe. \r\n\r\nThe family moved to Kerrville in 1952. He graduated from Tivy High School and then joined the Navy and became a Frogman (today know as Navy Seal). He returned to Kerrville and worked various jobs but most enjoyed working for The Cowboy Artists of America Museum (now the Museum of Western Art) for 28 years.\r\n\r\nHans leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Dianne Honea Poppe; son, Hans Jeremy Poppe; daughters, Tamara McGowan and Tiffany Poppe; brother, Walter Poppe (wife Jan) and family; and numerous nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nHans was a kind, loving, devoted family man and his favorite pastime for many years was attending sporting events for his children. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, art, stamp collecting and spending time with grandchildren (Amanda 14, Ashton 13, and Tessa 9).\r\n\r\nServices will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church. \r\n\r\nHonorary pallbearers are Jeremy Poppe, Jason Poppe, Gil Honea, Ted Honea, Chad Honea and Joseph Parker.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of one's choice.\r\n\r\n
