Gloria Anne Clifton Dozier, 85, of Kerrville died early in the morning on November 23, 2015. She was born January 2, 1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late James F. Clifton and Anna Schrufer Clifton. She graduated from St. Hubert's High School for Girls in 1948. She spent summers at the family summer home in Mt. Pocono, Pennsylvania where she worked in her teenage years to help pay for college. Gloria lettered in shooting and swimming at Drexel Institute of Technology (now Drexel University) where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education in 1952. In search of an adventure, she applied for and was awarded a teaching position in Marathon, Texas where she taught Home Economics for 3 years. She met J.V. (Judge) Dozier in Marathon and they married in Philadelphia in December 1954. They moved to Kerrville in 1959.\r\n \r\nGloria was president of the Tivy Elementary PTA for many years while the children were in school. She was a buyer and salesperson for Schreiner's department store for many years. After retirement, she raised registered Himalayan cats and traveled extensively to shows.\r\n \r\nShe was very active in the Kerrville Genealogical Society and held many offices over the years. Gloria was an exceptional historical and genealogical researcher. She has compiled at least 52 historical books that include Kerr County land records, birth and death records as well as 42 obituary books and indexes. These books are for public use at the Kerrville Genealogical Society Research Center and for this work, she was recognized in Who's Who in America. Recently, she was recognized by the Kerr County Commissioners Court for her extensive service to the citizens of Kerr County.\r\n \r\nGloria was preceded in death by her husband, Joe V. Dozier and her son John Clifton Dozier. She is survived by her remaining children: James, Anne, and Robert with wife Laurie Dozier. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Sharity Creacy, Wanda Dozier, Joshua and wife Kadie Melvin, Lincoln Melvin, Katy and husband Ben Mitchell, Jessica and husband Caleb Elks, as well as great grandchildren James, Shelby, Bexley, Nashlyn, Vadera, Kingston and Finley.\r\n \r\nViewing is set for Saturday, November 28th after 5 pm at Grimes Funeral Chapels. The Vigil and Holy Rosary will be held Sunday evening, November 29th, at 6pm, also at Grimes. Funeral Mass will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church Monday, November 30th at 9:30 am. Private burial will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.\r\n \r\nThe family would like to send heartfelt thanks to Dr. Barrington and the nurses at Peterson Hospice for their excellent care and assistance.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Kerrville Genealogical Society, Peterson Hospice, or the Kerrville chapter of St. Vincent De Paul Society.\r\n
